An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two children who were nine and 10.
The defendant was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.
The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he stood at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention before a additional proceeding on late November.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.
She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would go into the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his family member had worries about the situation, justifiably.
"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."
The prosecutor stated objects including infant oil, petroleum jelly and injection devices were discovered, and his family member notified the authorities about his worries.
She said the man continued to engage in the "candy game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.
"The police had not responded by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was examining the police response of the incident.
Mrs Prior said the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson called the authorities a second time.
She explained the man then engaged in the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
